"The more I play hickories - the more difficult it becomes to play modern clubs. My swing has always been slow (70 mph) and flat. I am now actually hitting hickory irons much better than my Pings. Has this happened to anyone else?"
2007-05-15 It may be the heft of the hickory shafted clubs that makes them easier for you to use.
If your clubs are a bit heavier than your steel / graphite shafted clubs, you may swing them better -- like playing with a MOMENTUS swing trainer -- a more grooved swing.
Personally, I play all my hickory shafted clubs heavy (E0 swingweight), and have a niblic at 49 degrees that I hit better than my pitching wedge in my steel shafted iron set.
I also have noticed that when I've played a few days with my steel (most of my golf is with hickory shafted clubs)I hit the ball farther than I expect -- the weight of the heavier clubs has allowed me to build up my golf muscles, and once I have my timing back with the steel shafted clubs, I tend to hit them more solidly -- cavity backs feel so much more solid than the flimsy blade of a thin bladed hickory club.Paul Dietz Sarnia, Ontario |
