Sept. 22-24, 2017
Rich Schmidt reports:
Nine hearty lads and one gentlelady met in Long Island to enjoy three spectacular days of hickory golf under sunny skies and warm temperatures. Our event started on the south shore at AW Tillinghast’s Southward Ho club. The membership welcomed us with open arms and we had a lovely morning of golf, followed by a wonderful lunch in their storied club house.
We then moved to the north shore for two days of golf at St. George’s Golf Club. Devereaux Emmet designed this club in 1917, and our presence at the club was a part of their centennial celebration. This club ranks in the top 100 of classic courses in the U.S., and is a very special and unique course with fantastic architecture.
We had some friendly competition and a few dollars exchanged hands. The highlight of the weekend, golf wise, was Eli Hostetter’s hole-in-one at the 11th. Eli, 35, from Pennsylvania, was playing only his third round of hickory golf. Suffice to say, that Eli is hooked on hickory and it was great to help him celebrate his perfect shot!
