December 2020
This year’s summary of world hickory golf events reflects what a challenging year it was. Several tournaments were cancelled, either because of mandated lockdowns or from an abundance of caution. The virus that has caused such grief in the world at least was often less impactful on golf because most community health and government leaders saw the game, with its open air and ability to social distance, a welcome respite and healthy alternative to just staying indoors. In short, the game in most areas was allowed to proceed. Many of the tournament photos we saw portrayed groups wearing masks or keeping a polite distance. Others were a little more carefree, but in all their enthusiasm for the sport was undaunted. It was also exciting to note that two of the game’s noted PGA professionals – Jose Maria Olazabal and Constantino Rocca – joined in the fun for a couple of European events.
Take care out there and remain cautious. Look out for one another. Perhaps as the newly approved vaccines make the rounds life will return to something like normal and we can return to our robust schedule of events.
Click on the link below for a summary of such events as we are aware. We try to post summaries of, more or less, larger national and regional outings. It would be difficult to list every hickory golf outing and that is good thing! The sport is growing.
The SoHG wishes all the best to the global hickory golf community. Happy holidays and let us wish for a bright, safe, and happy New Year.
