It’s the course golf history buffs love to hear about, even better, to play. Foxburg Country Club in Foxburg, Pa., dates to the late 1800s and is one of the first, indeed, some say THE first golf course in the country. That discussion is for another time. Our purpose here is to share a little video about the course produced by a local news channel. The video features GHS/SoHG member and gutty ball enthusiast Tom Johnson.
Foxburg is receiving some extra attention this year as efforts are underway to secure funding for the course to ensure its longevity and its continued status as one of the country’s most historic golf sites. As well, the venerable National Hickory Championship makes it debut at Foxburg this year, host Pete Georgiady treating his players to a round on the old course. The annual Foxburg Hickory Championship comes up later this year in August (see thebTournament Schedule page for information on both events.)
