Florida has so many great places to test your hickories that, really, it’s just not fair. Be that as it may, the annual Chautauqua Hickory Classic at the Eagle Springs Golf and Recreation Center in DeFuniak Springs, is a great place to give them a go. The course is also listed on the Florida Historic Golf Trail as the DeFuniak Springs Country Club.

Practice rounds are not included but may be scheduled by calling the course at 850-892-3812. Society of Hickory Golfers rules will apply for equipment.

DeFuniak Springs is a community rich in history. Founded at the end of the 19th century as the home for the Winter Chautauqua and built around the only naturally circular lake in the United States. Defuniak Springs has a Best Western and a Holiday Inn Express at the I-10/Highway 331 exit.  The Hotel DeFuniak boutique hotel, is a great option located in the Historic District. There’s also the Sunbright Inn, a newly opened bed-and-breakfast in a completely restored historic mansion. There are also many other options at the beach which is 35 minutes to the south.
