Iowa’s Hickory Classic a classic hickory outing

Iowa has been one of hickory golf’s active spots since the late 1970s when the Heart of America Hickory Championship was begun in Des Moines. The Iowa Hickory Classic came along soon after. The 2024 version was played Aug. 10-11 at the Fort Dodge Country Club, a sporty Tom Bendalow design dating from 1911. Good times, good weather and great support from the golf staff. Everyone enjoyed the Saturday night dinner hosted at Hanson’s Custom Golf. The classic Iowa meal of corn on the cob, pork chops, potatoes, and a salad were a hit. A small trade show and stories followed. All the ingredients for a great day of hickory golf with friends.

As for the golf outing, the results and scores were as follows:

Open Division winner – Chris Johnson (Des Moines), 159
