2025 Southern Hickory Classic
April 2, 2025 - April 4, 2025
A new take on an old favorite.
Formerly known as the Southern Hickory Four-Ball Championship, the new Southern Hickory Classic continues the legacy created by Tad Moore for this beloved southern hickory event.
The Alabama Hickory Golfers, and the Mississippi Hickory Golfers have joined to re-invent this unique classic, with some new twists.
The championship will be played at “The Fields Golf Club” in La Grange, Ga., the original site for Tad’s “The Woody” golf tournament.
23rd annual – Tad Moore Hickory Four-Ball Classic
The classic four-ball format favored by Tad will still be in play and this portion of the tournament will be called the Tad Moore Hickory Four-Ball Classic. It will use traditional four-ball scoring. However, after the first round, the two-person teams will be flighted into groups of 7 to 9 teams per flight, which organizers hope will offer players a better chance to score some bling for your team’s efforts.
The “Woody” – Stroke Play Invitational
This new element is being added to the event in 2025. The normal four-ball format will be played with the two-person teams, but there will be an invitational side of “The Woody.” Each individual’s score will count toward an individual “Stroke Play Invitational Champion.” Individuals will be flighted in the groups of 7 to 9 players for the final day, but you will still be playing with your original partners.
The fee is $260 per player. No handicap needed – This is a “Flighted Event” based on first day scoring.
We have additional sets of hickory clubs available. If you want to play and don’t have clubs… we have you covered.
And a special touch this year…
The Guttie Buddies
This 9-hole gutty ball event will be played Wednesday afternoon after the practice rounds, starting at about 3-4 p.m. The gutty fans will enjoy the extra event. Again, if you have no gutty clubs but wish to play in this one, we can pair players up and share with a couple extra sets. There is an extra cost for the gutty event, based on walking or riding the front nine of the Fields Golf Club.
