With the completion of the 2018 U.S. Hickory Open at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., the SoHG is pleased to announce the winners of the year-long Championship Series competition.
Peter Flory was the overall winner in the Championship Division; Kim Mansfield in Senior Division; Larry Wood in the Super Senior Division; and Marci Likens in the Ladies Division.

The SoHG Board is studying the results of a survey sent to members about their enthusiasm for continuing the CS, or altering it in some way. The survey, sent in September 2018, showed that, by and large, members don’t go out of their way to attend CS events, or adjust their tournament schedule to acquire points. It is just not that important to most members. Most did, however, say that the SoHG should continue to showcase players who do well and that CS recognition helps to build camaraderie among SoHG members. Of the 500+ members who were sent the survey, only 107 responded.
So, the Board continues to look at the CS and its future as a competitive series across the country’s regional hickory outings. Be sure to let your Board members know how you feel about the CS. Your input is most appreciated and will help to shape the look of the program in the future.
