2023 Furnace Creek Gutty Golf Spectacular

214 feet below sea level? Golf in Death Valley? Yes, yes, and yes! Welcome to the 8th annual Pacific Coast Hickory Golfers’ Gutty Golf Spectacular, the first all gutty tournament west of the Mississippi. This course is the Furnace Creek Golf Course in Death Valley, Calif. The world’s lowest-elevation course will play about 4,700 yards and will play as a bogey 78. Palm and Tamarisk trees line fairways and majestic mountains are visible from all areas of the course. This event will take you back in time, playing golf like it was more than 120 years ago.
Golf will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday for Round One match play (closest-to-the-pin and long drive as well), and Round Two will be stroke play for the championship at 9 a.m. Sunday. Food and drinks will be at golfers’ cost after each round. I am told the course has a great 19th hole. Awards will be presented both days after each round.
Only the McIntyre “Park” gutta percha ball is allowed, and sand tees are used for this event. (No rubber/Oakhurst, modern line cut, or limited flight Braid gutties.) Dress in period attire. (Temps in 70s are typical at this time)
