2023 Mid American Hickory Open
May 19, 2023 - May 21, 2023
This May we invite you to join us at Soangetaha Country Club to reunite with friends and enjoy the game we love. If you’ve not joined us before this is a 125-year-old parkland style course, revised and expanded by Tom Bendelow in the 1920s. It is a great layout for hickory golf. The gently rolling topography of this beautiful course has interesting challenges throughout.
We will again have two options for play:
We will be playing pre-1935, modern hickory in a stroke play format on Saturday and Sunday. A practice round is optional on Friday the 20th. We will host a welcome event Friday evening with trade tables and heavy appetizers. Dinner will be included after the Saturday round and a barbecue lunch will follow the Sunday morning round, also included. Spouses are welcome at all events, an additional “Guest Fee” for food is listed on the registration form.

In addition, we will host our 4-Person Super Ball (best shot scramble) on Sunday. This 18-hole event encourages local players to play hickory and gives regular hickory players a one-day event to enjoy. We expect to field five or six foursomes, new players, old players and ladies. You can assemble your own team, or we will assist in grouping foursomes. (We will schedule tee times on Saturday for players who come for the weekend but choose to play in the Scramble.)
There are two very convenient options for accommodations literally just minutes from the course, a Baymont Inn and a Holiday Inn Express.
And in case you require more incentive to attend, Calvin Whitman and Angus Rollo, who form an entertainment duet called the Scottish Rovers, plan to set up their band equipment at Gimpy’s, which is five miles north of Galesburg on the corner of Route 150 and Rio Corner. They will play a mix of Scottish and Irish pub songs and British and American rock from 7-10 p.m.
