2023 Spring Matches of the Bon-Air Golfers
April 2, 2023
The Bon-Air Golfers, established 1896, and reconstituted 1996, as Augusta’s hickory golfing society, will contest their Spring Matches at the Washington-Wilkes CC in Washington, Ga., as follows:
Fitz-john – using original 19th century (no later than 1905) smooth-faced irons and spliced-neck woods; and actual, original 19th century gutta percha balls, or “The Park” replicas from McIntyre Golf.
Ogilvie – using pre-World War II hickory-shafted irons and woods; and 20th century wound balata balls, or similar modern soft-covered balls.
Sporting – the catch-all division for those using reproduction hickory clubs and/or wanting to play fewer than 18 holes.
There are very limited golf-cars at WWCC, so plan on using one only if you have a medical disability that prevents walking. Thanks!
Period costume strongly encouraged.
Green fees are $30. Lunch after the second round of 9 is to be catered by a local British-style pub (new for this year). The cost is about $15. Tee times begin about 9 a.m.
We had three players in 2021, 12 in 2022… will there be 48 in 2023? Let me hear from you.
The Fitz-Patrick Hotel on the Square in Washington is our official tournament accommodation.
This is the Sunday just after the conclusion of The Augusta National Women’s Amateur and just before Masters Week.
