2024 Onion Creek Hickory Classic
March 24 - March 26
Pete League reports:
Our website, www.OnionCreekHickoryClassic.com is up and running, ready to take your registration.
Click the link above to visit the site and register for the tournament. Thank you to Bob Bjerke, who made the website happen.
We have a new schedule. During past years, the tournament has been held on a Thursday through Saturday. For 2024, we will play the Swift Trophy Matches and the 2024 Texas First Tee Hickory Championship on Sunday; and 36 holes of medal play on Monday and Tuesday. These are the only dates made available to us by Onion Creek Club.
Check out our new tournament poster, courtesy of Austin artist Zoe Jentzen. The talented Zoe is one of my MANY nieces.
This may be your last opportunity to play in this tournament, which traces it’s roots to 1992, when the late Johnny Henry started the tradition with a one-day tournament at the Grapevine Muni Golf Course in Grapevine, Texas. After a brief run in Houston, Max Hill brought the tournament to Onion Creek in 2004. The late Rives McBee managed the tournament at Los Colinas Country Club in 2011 and 2012, and it returned to Onion Creek in 2013. There is a strong possibility that this will be the final tournament at this venue. Your tournament director is now closer to 90 than he is to 80 and he is tired. Unless someone else comes along to take up the reins, it may be the last Onion Creek Hickory Classic.

BTW, our very cool logo, above, is the work of another of my talented nieces, Monica Afnani, of San Antonio. If you look closely, you will notice that it is a silhouette of Harry Vardon taken from a photo of the Swift Trophy, itself the work of world-renowned artist Mike Roche.
