2025 Mid-American Hickory Open

Host Denis Olson extends an invitation for hickory golfers to join in the fun this spring at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Ill.
Reunite with friends and play a course that was made for hickory golf. This beautiful 1890s parkland-style course was revised and expanded by Tom Bendelow in the 1920s. Soangetaha has interesting holes throughout that make it challenging and fun to play. Also, know that our hosts George & Mary Burgland and the club staff make us feel very welcome. We will play pre-1935, modern hickory in a stroke play format Saturday and Sunday. We will have Open, Senior and Statesman divisions. Trophies will be awarded for Champion and Reserve (net handicap) winners. A Ladies’ Trophy is also waiting for a winner. Practice rounds are optional on Friday the 16th. Please make those arrangements with the Pro Shop in advance, 309-342-5410.
We also offer a 4-person, best shot scramble on Sunday. This 18-hole event encourages new players to play hickory and gives regular hickory players a casual, one-day event. We expect to field five or six foursomes. You can assemble your own team, or we will assist in grouping foursomes. (We will schedule practice rounds on Saturday for players who come for the weekend but choose to play only in the Sunday Scramble.)
We will begin with a welcome event Friday at 5:30 p.m. with cash bar, hot appetizers and trade tables. For dinner Saturday night you are invited to George and Mary Burgland’s home, just off the No. 1 fairway. This is our third year as hosts and it has become a highlight of our event. Mary will again prepare one of her renowned Italian dinners. Lunch will be provided Sunday along with awards for the winners. Spouses are welcome at all events, an additional “Guest Fee” for food is listed on the registration form.
