BRADENTON, Fla. – In conjunction with Florida Hickory Golfers, the Florida State Golf Association conducted its first dedicated hickory golf competition at the historic Bradenton Country Club. The almost 100-year old Donald Ross design was the perfect host club allowing players to capture the feeling of how golf was played in its earliest days. The golf course was in excellent shape, but quite challenging as the wind gust up to 20 mph throughout the early morning round.
“Myself and the Florida Hickory Golfers appreciate the efforts of the FSGA to preserve and honor our golf history,” Mike Stevens, director of the Florida Hickory Golfers, said. “The event at Bradenton CC was enjoyed by all. The renovation by Mr. Tony Jacklin and head pro Brian Lake is excellent. Great to see some first time hickory players who all said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Looking forward to the upcoming events on the calendar.”
