Ernie Ernst reports:
The weather could not have been more perfect. Much like the Scottish Open that annually holds its event one week before The Open, this year’s Wisconsin Hickory Open was held Aug. 29-31 on the Links of Lawsonia in Green Lake the week before the U.S. Hickory Open in Kenosha. Fifty players from around the state and the country made the trip. Lawsonia was its usual diabolical self on the greens, but the recent wet weather made hitting and holding the green much easier (which just meant you had a longer putt).
Peter Flory made a second-day charge to catch Brad Hill who went out the first day with a blistering 72. By the back nine, Peter had caught Brad and was on his way to a win. That makes two in a row for Peter and four of the last five Wisconsin titles. Dan “The Milwaukee Missile” played a fine round to win Net in the Championship Division
In the Senior Division, yours truly held off a challenge from Jeff Hunt and Steve Simer to win the Senior Division. The magic Rowdy Hovat showed on the first day was missing on Day Two, which contributed to Ernst’s victory. Hickory newcomer Chip Cianciola won the Senior net title.
In the Legends Division, Texas shooter Doug Shackleford held off Arizona’s Kent Potts to win. David Boyd, a familiar name at Lawsonia events, won the Legend’s Division Net title.
