Peter Flory, of Glencoe, Ill., a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., handily won the 2019 Mid Pines Hickory by nine shots clear of runner-up Ted Kopec of Niceville, Fla. Flory’s 156 (79-77) was far and away the top of the leaderboard both days of a rather chilly Mid Pines Hickory Open, the 16th such event at the Donald Ross-designed course in Southern Pines, N.C. Although Flory took the Donald Ross Cup as the Open Division champ, Kopec did capture the Julius Boros Cup for net champion in the Open Division with a 145.
The Senior winner for the Skip Alexander Cup was Gary Melanson of Canada at 149, with Tim Anderson a distant second at 161. The Bobby Jones Cup for Senior Division net title, went to Eric Becker with 146.
Tops in the Super Senior category for the Old Tom Morris Cup was David Boyd with 170, winner in a playoff with Jeffrey Blomstedt who also finished at 170. The net winner in this division was Richard Payne, at 143, for the Walter Hagen Cup.
For the ladies, Barbara Kopec was both gross (195) and net champion (153).
