David Webster reports:
We had a beautiful day on Thursday, July 11, for the fourth annual New Hampshire Hickory Open at Lake Sunapee Country Club, New London, N.H.
Twenty-seven players from the New England states were joined by players from Texas, Florida, Maryland, New York, Virginia and North Carolina.
Bill ‘Wardy’ Wardwell and AJ MacVie both shot sizzling 76s, followed a shot back by Sam Webster with 77 and dad, David Webster, with 79.
AJ MacVie made a go-for-broke eagle on No. 18, a long uphill par 5, to catch Wardy and tie him for the championship.
Marci Likens of Winter Park, Fla., took the Women’s title.
Lake Sunapee is a most gracious host and seems to like us, so we look forward to doing it again next year in July.
Golf is good. Hickory is better.
