As the SoHG prepares for its 16th annual U.S. Hickory Open at the Inwood CC in September, others are also keen to note the 100th anniversary of Bobby Jones’ first U.S. Open victory at the historic club. This latest account comes from Stan Awtrey, the editor of Golf Georgia, the magazine of the Georgia State Golf Association.
Awtrey describes Jones first U.S. Open as the foundation upon which he built the Grand Slam of 1930. Supported by photos from the USGA and from Jones biographer Sidney L. Matthew, the article is a reminder of just how great the the southern amateur was.
All who visit the Inwood Country Club this September will follow in the footsteps of that legendary golfer. It’s an opportunity that does not come along every day.
