Mike Stevens reports on the inaugural Florida State Hickory Open.
First, I congratulate and thank the Florida State Golf Association for conducting a fantastic tournament at Sara Bay Country Club and for all their support of hickory golf.
The Florida Hickory Golfers acquitted themselves admirably. Will Peterson, who is back on track with his game, was the Open champion, while the Orlando duo of Rich Grula and Natalie Wells took top honors in the men and lady amateur net divisions. Bailey Wiegandt of Louisville, Ky., won the Women’s Open division.
On the professional side, first-time hickory player James Leadbetter lead the way while FHG fellows Jeremy Moe and Tom McCrary finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. FHG’s Alice Brown was the top female pro.
It was certainly great to see several first-time hickory players in the field enjoying the camaraderie we all know so well.
