Mike Stevens reports:
Great weather and a great hickory course for the third annual Florida Hickory Open, Aug. 21-22, conducted by the Florida State Golf Association. Dubsdread GC was in fabulous condition justifying its ranking as one of the top public courses in the Orlando area.
For the third straight year Will Peterson was too much, staving off a challenge from Eddie Peckels to take the Open Division trophy. Gary Cole topped the Stableford Division and Natalie Wells won the Ladies Stableford. Alice Brown captured the Women’s Open Division.
A big thanks to the Florida State Golf Association for their support of hickory golf and the origination of the event. Founded in 1913, all of the association’s early tournaments were played with hickory clubs. Their commitment to commemorating and preserving history is much appreciated.
