On April 9-10, 26 hickory players celebrated the first year Sacramento Hickory tournament. A very good first event field including several first-time hickory players. We had five from Washington, two from Oregon, two from Arizona, two all the way from south of Los Angeles, and two from Palm Springs, that leaves 13 from northern California. We had fields for Open, Senior, Statesmen and a Lady.
We played Arcade Creek (1952) on Saturday and the highlight on Sunday – the MacKenzie (1932). Everone loved the MacKenzie course!
Tournament results: Open: 1st-Bill Houghton: 75/77. Tim Bell posted 86/89 for second place. The Open net went to Riley Wong: 77/74, and the second net place went to Tyler Cannon who shot 85/82 at his first hickory tournament.
The Senior division was won by John Henry Williams with an 81/76. (He is back, haha!) The second place Senior was Ed Horvat from Arizona, with a score of 82/81. The net winners were: Don Jackson 70/71 (new-to-hickory), and Kris Sorano in second with 72/78,
The Statesmen division was won by Matt Nelson with 80/81. Second place was Michael Kosich with 81/83. The net division winners were: Lyle Rowland 67/64 and runner up was Chuck McCollum with 69/68.
The Ladies division was won by Roberta Robbins at net 69/74,. She liked the Arcade course better. She also was the keeper of the score board, and what a great job she did.
We also had closest the the pin winners for Arcade: 3rd hole, 158 yards: Chuck McCollum-4 feet, 10 inches. In second was Kris Sorano at 6 feet. On the back side, the 11th hole was played at 136-168 yards. Matt Nelson was closest at 18 feet, 4 inches. Steve Viskochel was second at 45 feet.
On the second day at the Mackenzie players were taking aim at the 129-yard 6th hole. Bill Houghton was closest at 5 feet; Rob Ahlschwede was next at 21 feet, 6 inches. The 14th hole went to Lyle Rowland who put it to 6 feet, 3 inches; and second to Michael Kosich at 13 feet, 3 inches. Those two were playing together that day.
Next year’s tournament is being scheduled for May. Thanks to all 26 players at this year’s inaugural event. Thanks also to Michael Scott and Tim Bell for their help in getting this to happen, and also to John Henry Williams for his help on the days before the tournament
