SoHG players embark on international trial run

Led by Brian Schuman and Rick Woeckener, 15 U.S. hickory players plan a fall adventure to Scotland for a bit of golf with a patriotic flair. The team of 15 players (so far) has coordinated with Lionel Freedman, the SoHG’s English International ambassador, to arrange a series of international matches built around the World Hickory Open, Oct. 1-2, on the Montrose Links at Carnoustie.

Schuman has provided a trophy that he is calling the “Hickory Cup” and hopes it will become the permanent trophy for the winners of the official International Matches planned by the SoHG to begin in 2014. The 2013 trip is to be a “trial run” of sorts for the 2014 event, Schuman explains in his attached article about the trip. Nothing short of zealous about hickory golf, Schuman has created a matched wardrobe for team players and even inaugurated a “U.S. Hickory Players Club,” which he hopes will be seen as a friendly collaboration between hickory golfers across the U.S. It will have no fees, no initiation, no organization beyond its “club without a course” status, he says.

But, better to hear from Brian in his own words. To see his news of the 2013 Scottish Adventure, the international matches and the U.S. Hickory Players Club, click on the following link to download a PDF of his article.

Bon Voyage, guys. Play well this October.
