The Florida Hickory Golfers completed an outing at the historic Winter Park Country Club & Golf Course March 16-17, with a message for other hickory golfers:
“This 9-hole course is a real gem and should definitely be on your list of places to play with your hickory clubs,” says FHG leader Mike Stevens. “We had fabulous weather both days and the course was in fantastic shape.”
The course, near Orlando, was built in 1914 and added to the National Register of Historic Sites in 1999.
The Winter Park weekend is played in a Stableford format as are most of the FHG events in the season-long “Race to Mt. Dora,” a competition that will identify the season’s best players based on Stableford points accumulated from events throughout the year.
Stevens reported that several players tied for first at plus 7 on Saturday at Winter Park – Rosemary Pabst, Mike Tracy, Bill Geisler, and Wally Armstrong. His own self, he says, “roared in” at plus 12 on Sunday. “Looks like a lot of handicaps will be going up for the next event,” he said.
