Sept. 23, 2019
Canton, Ohio
The second Glenmoor Hickory Open was a splendid two days of hickory golf in Canton, Ohio. The field hosted hickory golfers from as far as Kansas.
Day One’s Scramble included members of Glenmoor CC and a practice round by the more experienced hickory players. For the members, it was an enjoyable new experience to learn about and experience first-hand pre-1935 equipment. The best comment came from host PGA Professional Meghann Stem, who was listening to members deciding what to hit from 45 yards. “Do I hit a niblick?” “No, just a half niblick” “Well, then it must be a nibbie.” That type of banter was going on the whole round, she said.
Day Two was a medal round with hickory golf veterans competing in the customary three divisions of Open, Senior, and Super Senior.
The Results:
Open
First – Rick Woeckener (continuing a great summer of hickory golf for the 2019 USHO champion)
Second – Tom Johnson
The Open Net champion was David Schultz.
